Our company started as an idea from my son, Drew, expressing an interest in knife making. One thing led to another, and we got our training from one of the best in the business, Roger Smith of Bloodworth Knives.
We founded our company with the following mission:
“To create a one-of-a-kind knife ownership experience”.
Our company name, ‘Akros’, is a Greek work that means “extreme, topmost, highest”, also akin to the Latin word ‘Acer’ (sharp) – our knives are just that…they are the highest level of knife ownership and yes, they are razor sharp!
I’ve made my home in Idaho since the early 80’s and I love to chase rutting bulls in September as well as cast for anything with fins. My son, Drew, started joining me on these ventures from the time my dear wife was pregnant with him on the South Fork of the Clearwater and heavy chinook were bending my rod. We have melded our passion of the outdoors into our passion for making custom knives for other hunters and fishermen.
As a practicing Mechanical Engineer, I am very aware of how critical it is to maintain proper process control and consistency.
We start with the highest quality materials available and we perform every step of the process in our shop – we grind the steel, heat treat and temper the blades, and finish the blade in one location. And we pay attention to the critical details that result in a lifetime of performance and pride of ownership.
Our sheaths are hand-made and hand-stitched to be custom fitted to your knife.
We back up our product with a 100% satisfaction guarantee.
We offer several types of steels to work with and we can also bring in nearly any steel that the customer wants.
